All credit to Seth Godin for lighting the fire.
I’m Kenny Whitelaw-Jones and the original idea to bottle up the creative linchpin meet up juice and make a delicious magazine smoothy came to me. For once I had the good sense to put together a team of people who have way more talent than me and then make sure I stay out of their way.
When I’m not rustling up harebrained projects like this, I’m indulging my passion for photography, and often doing a bunch of stuff related to financial modelling. I particularly like to connect with other humanoids, preferably in person over a coffee (especially in this cafe in London), a glass of wine (ideally from here), or a dram (preferably taken here). Failing all of that, twitter, facebook and linked in are all reasonable substitutes.
Now, the important people:
Caroline von Schmalensee: Editor
It’s all about communication. Companies need to get their message out in so many different ways. Last year, I became freelance to be able to focus on the aspects of communication I find interesting. Through technical writing I make sure that manuals, help systems, standards documents, tutorials and other documents tell the right story and meets the readers’ needs. Structure and presentation can be as important as language when you’re making a point. As a marketer I can tell stories more overtly in website copy, articles, newsletters, marketing brochures and blog entries. Ultimately, I help my clients communicate clearly with their customers, making the world a less confusing place. I hope to become indispensable.
You’ll find me on my website, on LinkedIn and on twitter.
Kay Koyama-Gore : Designer
My name is Kay Koyama-Gore and I’m a freelance graphic designer based in Edinburgh, UK. After years of working for design agencies in London and Edinburgh, I took the plunge and went freelance last year. My background is in design for print – although I’ve work on numerous digital projects in the last 10 years my heart belongs to print! Whilst my day job is working on marketing communications, corporate communications and branding projects, it’s really great to work on experimental or pro bono projects such as Linchpin Magazine. Look forward to working with you all.
I recently set up an ex-agency freelancer partnership called Unbundled – read about me and download my portfolio.
I’m on Linked In – connect as a friend and you can view my portfolio there on slideshare
Ted Kusio: Web developer
My quest is the next story. This is especially true when “story” includes interactivity, music, motion, and possibilities for something else we may not even imagine…yet. Computers and the web are great beasts for this, so I poke and push with HTML, Flash, Wordpress, Drupal, AfterEffects and a variety of musical instruments, while also getting all analog with paper, ink and paint. I’m a freelance developer/designer in New York, working primarily in digital advertising, and when no one but the world is looking, I poke at what’s next.
There’s more in my portfolio, lots on LinkedIn, less on Twitter, love for the wife, and WOOP for life.
Louella Paranal: Project and admin support
I live in the Phillipines and support the team by ensuring that everything gets done and the word gets out about the project. I’m a work at home mom and just plain crazy about cake decorating – my hobby “art”. Parenting is a course I have chosen to learn and take to heart when my son was born six years ago. Apparently, it is by far that most difficult task I ever took but the most rewarding mission I ever had.
It gives me pride to be part of this team and work with the linchpins all over the world. Thanks to Kenny for putting together the great artists that make up this team and to Seth for inspiring this worthwhile project!
